How do you get breast cancer?
Breast cancer develops from breast lumps. These lumps occur for various reasons, and most are not threatening and are non-cancerous. Some people may develop cancer due to infection, cyst, or injury to the breast.
Others may develop breast cancer due to a history of a benign tumour (fibroadenoma) that may become resistant to treatment. Yet breast cancer can develop due to an injury to fat tissue in the breast (fat necrosis).
You should note that while information on breast cancer focuses on women, it can also develop on men.
How big are breast cancer lumps?
Breast cancer lumps can grow up to 3 centimetres before they are detectable by self-examination.
